This amiable fellow has a white beard, red color suit and loves children like his counterpart in the United States.īut the similarities end there. The jolly man in the red suit in Europe is actually the Christian Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children. The man, most likely referred to as Saint Nick in many European countries, is very different than the Santa Claus of the United States. In many European countries, the Santa Suit has traditionally been a long flowing robe reminiscent of clergy, similar to our Victorian Santa Suit. So, regardless of whether you call it a Santa Suit or Santa Costume, the most important thing to remember is that Santa Claus loves children and the holiday season. Nevertheless, all young children recognize Santa Claus with his red coat, white beard, black boots and jolly laugh. But novices often refer to the Santa Outfit as a Santa Costume, possibly because Halloween costumes are so popular in the United States. The little Jester Doll is missing a leg and an arm, I left him that way … he made think me of the “Land of Misfit Toys”. ![]() ![]() Next we have a beautiful Old World Santa Scrap piece! This one has a Blue Coat trimmed in fur. He has a fairly large Christmas Tree strapped on his back and he’s holding a big sack of toys! The Greeting is simply “Christmas Greetings”, on the card. Here we have a lovely Santa in a dark blue robe with matching hat. This first image is a new addition to this site. Such a lovely color and the Children seem delight as well. I thought this one was so unusual, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Santa Clause in a Purple Robe! Of course he has a matching hat too. You can see that the children have spotted him and are all running towards him. Such a gorgeous image for your Vintage Christmas Craft Projects!Īnd lastly we have this marvelous old Christmas Card featuring an Old World Santa, in a Brown Robe, he’s got lots of toys to hand out to the good girls and boys and a tiny tree too! The scene around him is a snowy one. This is a beautiful Old World Swedish Santa Image and one of my favorites! Featured above is a glorious looking Santa with a light brown coat, he has a Holly Wreath on his head and he’s carrying a small Christmas Tree and lots of Toys! The greeting on the card is “God Jul” (Merry Christmas), so I’m assuming it could be Swedish, but I know a few other countries use that same greeting so I can’t say for sure. It looks like some lucky child is getting a whole lot of toys, as he appears to be dumping the whole bag! Here we see St Nick wearing a brown robe with creamy fur trim and a matching hat. I don’t have a lot of these images, but I’ve put together this little set of Blue robed Victorian Santas and some Brown Robe ones too. This is a beautiful Vintage collection of Victorian Santas in non traditional colored robes, as none of them are red! Although actually, they would have been traditional back in their day, before Santa started wearing his red suit, with stocking cap, he used to wear long Robes in different colors.
